  • More walks

    24.02.03 More walks

Sunday walk down by the river, walked to Iffley Lock, and then Sunday Lunch at The Prince of Wales in Iffley Village, which I can heartily recommend, top-notch roast. Pretty cheap too. Fast service and the best roast potatoes bar none.

    I got game

And have been taking a lot of random pics. Good fun. Also playing more Crash, GTA3 on the PC, and a bit of Pokemon.

  • Don’t be fooled by Iraq I am not, I’m still, I’m still Blix from the Block

Long tiring day. However I did get past one of the most evil levels I’ve ever come up against in a game, second boss on Crash Bandicoot Wrath of Cortex. Totally fucking evil

I could be influencing the world sooner than I thought. About time too.

  • Important Nintendo News

Phantasy Star Online out on time

Zelda to include limited edition disk

Whatever the hell next, Animal Crossing to be released in UK after all? A very good nintendo day for me 🙂

  • Donkey Kong Jnr the way it should be played

This is just genius. Donkey Kong Jnr

  • Twas Valentines Eve and all through the house, nothing was stirring, not even a mouse

I’ve been growing herbs for the past few weeks on the windowsill. Corriander, chives, basil, thyme. They look great. I’m not sure I can claim to be father nature, but I am at least brother earth. I want to take some pics of them, cos I’m proud.

More Chris Morris at work at Smokehammer. Fantastic video editing

I am presently watching Around the Horn on the North American Sports Network (free trial unfortunately, I could watch this crap all the time). Its an american sports based discussion programme, with four sports writers. But its a competative debate, they score points for good observations. Its fucking barking. The genius thing is that although it is sports based, they discuss topics other than sports. On the topic of Paula Abdul, good or bad? someone has just said “the fact is she stinks”. On the golf player John Daly bringing out a country album, the response was “Well, it could be worse, he could be drinking again”.

  • How the Hell

can England lose to Australia at football? Even in a friendly. Its like us beating them at cricket. Or tennis. Or swimming. Or skiing. Or luge. Or tiddlywinks.

Tis evening three of the edit the ninty page, which for varience I mixed up with doing a bit of cv work. I’m not looking but I get round to updating it once a year or so. Always good practice.

Tonight’s NHL Ice Hockey game is Ottawa vs Pittsburgh. “vs” was the very first difference between American and English I ever picked up on. I’d always written “v” as in liverpool v man.utd. Then I saw something in my Great Grape Ape annual that was a sign that said “The Great Grape Ape vs “something or someone or other. It became a personal affectation to always write vs from that point onwards.

Another US/UK sporting anomaly is that when we write liverpool v man utd, we mean that the game will be played at liverpool’s home ground (presently anfield, I suspect not for much longer). In America when they write “Ottawa vs Pittsburgh”, it is shorthand for Ottawa at Pittsburgh, i.e. the second team is the home team.

What does this tell us about the American people? After all, much of their culture originates from we English, but why is it all so different?

Why? because the American’s live to be difficult, awkward for the pure sake of being awkward? What was so fucking important that you had to take a u out of colour? less time writing so you could spend more time eating?

Let it be said that I am one of the biggest Americaphiles in the the western world, and yet they can exasperate the fuck out of me, never mind the leaders of France or Germany.

  • Editing (Slight Return)

Still working on the Nintendo page. A labor of love (I borrowed the info from the american ninty site, so it can be a labor).

Chris Morris has a new dvd out. Which can only be a good thing. Its of Rothko, his new short film.

I am presently watching Boston vs Montreal, an Ice Hockey game. I like the noise.

  • Editing

I’ve been working on a new page for hours. It is a full list of every Nintendo game ever. It has been an absolute fucker to edit. My eyes are about to explode off my face. Or something.

let it be said, Mark and Lard are two of the funniest buggers it has been my privilege to hear in a long time.

  • Old(er)

I am now 31, having done the decent thing and had my birthday on Saturday (I was about due another one). Actually, it probably is a good sign that it seems ages since my last one, I guess I must really be busy enjoying life these days.

I also ate lobster for the first time on Thursday, and have to say that it did not disappoint. I have a date with a whole lobster in the none-too-distant future.

I have gone kebab crazy lately, and have decided on a dish tomorrow that involves stir-fried chicken, with vegetable kebabs. Looking forwards to trying this out.

And lastly, watched two great tv shows last night, The Harry Hill show, his latest series now on ITV, and Little Britain which is David Walliams and Matt Lucas’s latest creation, sort of a camp league of gentlemen, which is quite an achievment in itself, nevermind making it far funnier.

  • Game(r)

Okay so Phantasy Star Online is out in less than a month here. This must mean I am about due some serious purchasing. I will need the game and the broadband adapter pretty much on day of release. I’m still searching for Pokemon Stadium, and still mainly playing Pokemon Silver on the GBA, and F Zero X on the N64. I did get a cheap 2nd hand 3rd party 2nd controller for the N64 today, just so I could play 2 player F Zero. It is one of the more complete games ever, I am very glad I got the N64, otherwise I might never have played it.

I think that I may get a Dreamcast later in the year, and will also consider getting a SNES, a megadrive, a Saturn, a Master system, a nes (maybe even with the robot if I can find it). I think I would ideally like to build a unit for them all to sit in. I have visions of a tall unit with a shelf for each system, maybe even painted out in appropriate colour scheme.

maybe that would a better project to go in a spare room rather than a living room. I could always get a second-hand tellie to go with it.

The other thing I’ve been wondering about was getting an adaptor to use the GC on the PC monitor. I can remember seeing Soul Caliber played on a monitor, and it looked awesome. I could easily be tempted by that, and its not too expensive either, I seem to recall.
