  • Sky TV

My friend C has just got sky. She asked me what she should watch. This was my reply:

QVC. Everyone who gets sky should devote one evening of their lives to watching this. Just the once mind.

Steve Irwin, the crocodile hunter, on Discovery. God of nature programmes.

Liquid News on BBC3. Will be ending at the end of the year, the main presenter paddy is a genius.

Doggie Fizzle Televisal on MTV. Its Snoop Doggy Dogs comedy show. And it works, somehow.

Challenge TV – the quiz show channel. Now bear with me on this one. I can see why you would think that old repeats of quiz shows would be the last thing you want to watch. Ahhh, but if you have sky, you have sky interactive. And a lot of the quiz shows on here are, interactive. So you can sit and watch them, and compare your scores against the contestants. Brilliant. And they have takeshi’s castle. A japanese quiz show starring Beat Takeshi. Who to the fans of cult japanese films like Battle Royale is a great actor. To the Japanese however, he is considered with all the cultural distain that we show Noel Edmonds over here. This show is why. I quite like it myself.

Thane TV – home of the 20 minute infomercial. Just like you see on the Simpsons, some of the presenters are even mimiced on the simpsons. Since I got sarah into watching this channel, we have seen most of every infomercial ever. Marvel at “The Tuxedo Painting System”.

The Dating Channel – There is a good reason why most of the people on these channels dont have a data. Watch in quiet awe why. I believe on Sky you get 7-8 of these, both for different areas of the country, and for different persuasions.

Digital Radio – you get a load of radio stations. You want to be looking at the schedules for BBC7. You’ll know why when you see them. They have been repeating old on the hours and everything.

Cartoon Network & CNX. If you get these, just have a quick glance every so often, as there is plenty on there you will need to know about for if/when you get round to having kids, because they should be watching these channels

Eurosport. Now, there is a time and a place for this if you don’t acutally like sport. At the back of my mind at the moment is a comedy show based on a fake version of Eurosport. What I truely love about it is watching Winter Sports and the Tour de France. Most of these necessitate commentators babbling their way through hours of fairly dull sport. It seems to morph into a European version of Brian Johnson commentating on cricket. Thats probably not the best all round sell of it, but I do love it.

BBC Parliament – Just because randomly on the occasional saturday, they will repeat a whole days general election coverage from the 70’s or something. Pure history

Biography Channel – The Actors Studio programmes. A bit sucky up to the stars, but very good.

SKY1 – Simpsons agogo, futurama, and the occasional other imported gem.

  • Cubism

Cubism is no different from any other school of painting. The same principles and the same elements are common to all. The fact that for a long time Cubism has not been understood and that even today there are people who cannot see anything in it, means nothing. I do not read english, and an English book is a blank book to me. This does not mean that the English language does not exist, and why should I blame anyone but myself if I cannot understand what I know nothing about?

    Picasso talking about Cubism

One of the many highlights of Paris was the Picasso Museum. It is truely an amazing journey through his life, and through his own journey as an artist. He is amazing.

  • Been a long time since I rock and rolled

So I got married to S, and have been on honeymoon to Paris. Wow, both were amazing experiences. I don’t like to talk about things that are too personal on here, but I can tell you I am the happiest I’ve ever been in my life. Smiling as I type this.

Paris was incredible, we went to the Louvre, Arc De Triomphe, Musee de Orsee, Picasso Museum, Notre Dame, Sacre Coure, Montmatre, Centre Pompidou, a bus tour around Paris. Great food and drink, very exciting. I’d like to write more about it, and intend to.

  • things wot I like

Iam are a french rap group that have recorded a new track with Method Man and Redman. Saw the video on MTV France on honeymoon, and this is available to watch under the nouvelle album section

learnt a little more French too. Was interested to find out that the literal translations of “Laughing Cow” is “The Cow which Laughs”, and “Everybody loves Raymond” is “All the world loves Raymond”. Little things that please me

    Safestuff
is a site by a guy obsessed with old Atari games. Its good.

  • Two things, one good one bad

Internet Crazes are here, hurrah. We now have flashmobbing. A large group of people meet up in a location, and do something wacky. Great. Hmmmmm. I’m waiting for the first flash murder spree.

Far more worthy and useful is Book Crossing. Leave a book in a random location for someone to find. Direct them to a site for them to do the same. Anything that promotes reading is fine by me.

  • Oh say can you see, by the la la hmmmm la

That was a longer break from writing than I expected. Ah well, back now. Need a haircut and an asprin, and then I should be fine. Had a massive headcold for the last week, which I suspect I did not help by having a massive skinfull last night. Weekend soon (about 4 hours) so I should get there in one piece.

Still on with PSO, getting closer to the hardcore, some serious weaponry starting to be acquired. Also playing a fair bit of Pokemon Ruby, which is a very classy little game.

  • Visit

My best friend S was down at the weekend, and along with S (complex code I know) we went off to see an artists exhibition, that of Jane Tomlinson, who has done some great paintings of Stone Circles and one of my favourite places, Uffington White Horse. Having met Jane, enjoyed her work and her tea, we went onto Avebury. Another of my favourite places. We actually managed to take in Avebury, The Sanctuary, Silbury Hill, and Marlborough Mound. Oh, and Falkners Circle, which only exists as a single remnant of a stone near the West Avenue. Quite a calm place. S took some photos, and I’ve done some work on one of them here. Few ideas around the theme of cel shading, which crops up in my current gaming a lot, so why not expand it into reality too.

I may be different after E3, the big gaming expo in the states. But as it stands, there are just too few games I can even see myself considering. About the only one I know I will get for definite is Gran Tourismo 4, and no-one knows when that will come out.

I am a manic fan for the Gamecube, this is true. But I’ve had many a happy hour playing the PS2, and I’m sad that I feel a lot of innovation is missing at the moment. I think there is too much time being spent on the safe games, and not enough time spent on the exciting possibilities of what the machine could do.

  • Excessive Linkage

Got some good sources of links going now. First off we have Newgrounds, which is home to all manner of things shockwave and flash. Also worthwhile for games specifically is FHM’s top 100 games which is a nicely written guide. Also from FHM comes FHM top 100 websites, which is a more esoteric selection that you would rightly suspect. Lastly Albino black sheep is another site in the vein of newgrounds.

  • Further Off Course

Have nearly finished Stupid White Men. If you ask me, you can borrow it when I’m done. Very thought-provoking. For one I don’t read enough. For another I don’t lend out enough books. And I should give more books to Oxfam, so I have space for more reading.

When I go on courses like this, I do enjoy the solitude in the evenings, it tends to make me think more. Its not something I like to make a habit of at all, but it is very healthy once in a while to have time to yourself when rather than just watching tellie, or relaxing in whatever way you see fit, you think. Gets the old brain cell moving, considering things from a different viewpoint to normal. I miss S, and I miss our home, even though I’m home tomorrow. Thats a good thing in my book 🙂
