  • Joy Unbounded

Got a nice bonus this month from work. Very pleased with that, some funds for a holiday and some stuff. Have invested a princely £30 in a 1GB USB key that means I can finally set up a project I have fancied doing for ages, namely a bootable version of linux on a USB key, so I can carry a whole operating system on my keyring. Bit o’luck I should have that to play with tomorrow night.

Have been enjoying this site, A blog of an occasional East Enders writer . It reads a bit like Ed Reardon’s Week, which is a cracking comedy on radio 4 about a hapless writer. Obviously this chap is somewhat more successful, but still worth flipping through the archives for a few gems.

  • Bloody Windy

Slept badly again last night, got an early night, and then was kept awake for a few hours by the mother of all storms. It was very windy, one of our garden chairs was halfway down the garden this morning, almost in my new crap rockery, or crockery as I now think of it. Still, good to see the plants I put in there at the weekend are still looking alright. I was worried the wind might trash them somewhat.

We are off to see a friend of S for a night tomorrow, and then as we are passing through London, are hoping on the way back we can get into Tate Modern for a few hours. We went there a couple of years ago and loved it, so hopefully now a lot will have changed there. Other than that, hoping sunday to finish off the crockery, get the top level dug out. Once that is done, there is a large pile of leaves and earth to be sifted and sorted out, then I can think what to do with the top bit.

  • Damn Tired

Had a late night Sunday, felt not too bad. Had a early night last night, feel like death, just cannot wake up yet. One of those cases where autopilot does everything from getting you out of bed to you having been sat at work for 15 minutes. Actually that is pretty cool that you can do that without functioning properly. I am very glad to be wearing clothes mind.

  • Dans le Garden

Knackered today, spent most of yesterday afternoon in the garden. I now have a feature developing that could loosely be described as a rockery, with various things planted in it. Must start getting pics up at some stage, I have been trying to take them as I go along this year. It still isn’t looking neat, but it is certainly a lot closer to tidy than it has done for some time.

Still playing Mr Driller, although my enthusiasm may be about to start the waning period. However we are going to woking on Friday, so it might pick up for the train journey.

We also managed a massive walk along the river on Saturday, about 2 and a half hours, plus a pub break halfway. Then a massive Chinese meal, and finished off with watching Lost in Translation, which is a great film, nothing much happens, but to be honest, you don’t care.

  • Last Laugh?

Trying to write an entry for the Last Laugh contest on BBC3 at the moment. Basically, they have several scripts half-written, and you have to complete the story. I have picked my story, and come up with what appears to me to be a plausible and suitable ending. I just need to write it and make it funny now. I suspect that is the trickier bit.

Getting back into the way of walks in the evening with S again, now that the weather is improving (HA, except for the past two days weather, although we still managed a walk last night). Last week we had a beautiful long walk down by the river, very pretty, and now that the clocks have gone back, once it finishes raining we can manage longer still we hope. Looking forwards to the first evening this year we spend wandering along the Thames in lazy daylight.

In other news, iPod, still good, DS decidedly super

  • its Friday

Well it is not, but I am off tomorrow. And Monday. For no good reason, which suits me fine. Going to
catch up on some reading for work, and generally chill. Oh, and garden too. Got things to start planting,
which is a nice position to be in after a couple of months of almost solely bagging up crap. Still got plenty
of that to do too, but it will be nice to break it up. Have a small rosemary bush, garlic, and several herbs and plants to plant.

Very close to finishing the mass copying project that is getting all our cds onto my ipod. Think I am on the home straight now. Would like to move onto copying some videos onto DVD next, would love to get rid of a load of my vhs tapes, and hide/sell/throw out my video. Might even get a little of that done this long weekend.

So I am now a fully-fledged member of the ipod community. It is a fantastic bit of kit, once you’ve
had it a few days you wonder why you haven’t had one all your life. Am carrying around my entire record
collection on something slightly bigger than my mobile. Very happy with it.

Had a course on Friday on HTMLDB, which is a web-based development suite for Oracle. I have been
using it for almost a year now, but I had to figure it all out for meself, so I was quite untutored in it.
Feel a lot more confident about it now, can see some new areas where I want to use it now. Also want to get our system upgraded to the latest version, as they have added a lot into it, some new things I would really like to start using.

  • Dream Serious

Last night I had a long poignant dream about balancing precariously on narrow ledges. On reflection, I think playing Mario 64 in bed before I went to sleep was a bad idea.

It is snowing on and off here, but in a rather pathetic non-northern fashion. Very pretty to look at this morning, if a little less fun to walk through. Taking great care not to fall on my arse this morning.

Finally, someone has revived an old Firefox extension that I have been desperate to find ever since I moved from Opera to Firefox. Save Session remembers all your open tabs when you close Firefox, and reopens them as you left them. Which was one of the main things that I loved about Opera, and finally it is a part of the browser I truly love. I am quite glad about it, mainly cos I was starting to think I might have to try and learn how to do it myself. Which could have taken me ages.

  • Hmmmmmm

Nice lazy weekend, took it nice and easy with S. Bit more gardening, have moved the buried bike out of the way, to now get down to the layer containing a hoover, a rabbit hutch and numerous other random items the previous tennants tried unsuccessfully to burn and then bury. I must thank them for that if I ever meet them. I also disturbed a little tiny toad, who had a little wander then buried himself again. No idea what he was doing in our garden, unless one of our neighbours has a pond hidden somewhere.
